White paint is notoriously the heaviest paint pass on any carbon frame. The fact that the white Look 795 Blade RS 3 weighs within 10 grams of a minimally painted Wilier Filante SLR iD2 proves that Look’s carbon lay-up is exceptionally optimized.

More importantly, Look didn't chase phantom weight savings by sacrificing standard durability:
-
Sleeved T47 Bottom Bracket: Look uses a full aluminum center sleeve inside the T47 shell rather than bare internal threads. This guarantees structural alignment, prevents creaking, and adds massive bearing longevity for real-world winter riding.
-
Over-Engineered Alloy Compression Rings: Unlike thin flexy plastic compression rings found on many competitors, Look uses a solid aluminum compression ring with an integrated rubber seal to keep grit out of the headset bearings.
2. Campagnolo Super Record Wireless: 12-Month Wear & Teardown
Having ridden Campagnolo Super Record Wireless for over 6,000–7,000 miles across all seasons, we stripped the groupset down to inspect bearing wear, surface treatments, and hardware integrity.

Cassette & Chain Coating Longevity
Campagnolo’s black chrome coating on the fully machined steel cassette held up remarkably well. Under macro inspection, even after switching between chain wax and emergency road oil during trips away, the black treatment showed negligible friction wear.
Titanium Axles & Anti-Seize Best Practice
Campagnolo uses titanium spindle hardware on Super Record. Titanium-on-titanium interface carries a high risk of galling and cold welding if not treated properly.
-
The Torque Standard: Campagnolo’s manuals list a wide torque range of 47–60 Nm.
-
Mapdec Workshop Practice: Always apply a neutral ceramic anti-seize paste (avoiding copper or metallic pastes that react with titanium) to the spindle threads. Because ceramic lube reduces friction coefficients down to ~0.8, we torqued the crank bolt to the lower end of the spectrum (~47 Nm) to achieve perfect pre-load without stretching threads.
Campo USB Bearing Seals
During teardown, we noticed an issue on the non-drive side Ultra Smooth Bearings (USB). The internal retaining clip can occasionally creep into the seal gap, causing minor rubber deformation and allowing moisture ingress. While drive-side bearings remained factory-fresh, non-drive side units required repacking with fresh grease.
3. Ultra Carbon-Aluminum Chainring Upgrade
To trim rotational weight on the Super Record crankset, we replaced the stock outer chainring with the Campagnolo Ultra chainring unit.

The Ultra chainrings feature a structural carbon center spider sandwiched against precision-machined aluminum teeth. Beyond saving 33 grams, the carbon weave visually matches the directional carbon aesthetic of the Campagnolo Bora wheelset.
4. Cockpit Ergonomics & Front-End Compatibility
Cockpit shape is purely subjective, but ergonomics dictates control during high-speed descending.

-
Wilier F-Bar: Features a subtle outward flare at the drop, flat tops, and a smooth hood transition with an integrated cable-exit bump to eliminate palm hot-spots.
-
Look Combo Handlebar: Look updated their latest integrated road handlebar to include a subtle flare in the drops. You can run narrower hoods for aerodynamics while retaining control and leverage in the drops.
-
Headset Flexibility: Because Look utilizes a standard 40mm internal / 56mm lower token arrangement, riders are no longer locked into Look’s proprietary cockpit. You can run 3rd party integrated systems like FSA, Deda, or Vision using 4-in-1 top adapters.
5. Wheel Options: Campagnolo Bora vs. Princeton Wake 6560 vs. OEM Fulcrum
Wheel choice determines the personality of an aero road bike:
-
Campagnolo Bora Ultra (6,000+ Mile Review): Closed-rim bed design means no rim tape is required and structural rigidity is exceptional despite lower spoke counts. The silent freehub ratchet provides a refined, stealthy ride feel.
-
Princeton CarbonWorks Wake 6560 (White/Gloss): Stiffer laterally than the Boras with an aggressive, audible hub pick-up. Excellent for high-wattage road racing and time-trial efforts.
-
Fulcrum Speed 50/60 & Mavic Cosmic Options: For riders utilizing Look's factory configurator, both Fulcrum and Mavic options provide solid OEM performance straight out of the box.
Final Build Specs & Weight
Our complete Look 795 Blade RS 3 custom build came in at 7.5 kg ready to ride, including:

-
Look 795 Blade RS Frame & Aero Stem/Bar
-
Campagnolo Super Record Wireless (with Ultra Chainrings)
-
Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO carbon wheels, fitted with Pirelli P ZERO Race tan-wall tyres
-
Pedals, bottle cages, out-front computer mount, and integrated lighting.
At this level of road bike evolution, aero testing differences across major brands fall within a margin of error. What really separates top-tier bikes is build detail, serviceability, paint durability, and long-term component integration.
