Did we do the right thing?

Did we do the right thing?

They were quoted £975 to make this Trek Remedy safe.

Doing the right thing

One of the most essential skills of our Mapdec shop team is empathy and listening to the customer. As mechanics we always want to make things perfect which can lead to an expensive bill, but sometimes the right answer is just to make it better than it was and safe to ride again.

This Trek Remedy is the perfect example. A mother and son came in, another bike shop had given them a quote for £945 to make the bike safe to ride again. Obviously no mother is going to want their son riding an unsafe bike, but £945 is a huge amount.

Understanding the situation we did a full check of the bike and suspension and made a few judgement calls. We handed back a bike that is safe to ride and a bill that was less than half the original quote. Yes, it is not a box-fresh bike and there will be a few more jobs needed  further down the line, but a teenage lad has his bike back ready for a summer of fun and Mum has kept a bit more money in her pocket.

Plus we were able to offer a few tips that will hopefully help keep this bike in better condition and save money in the future (stay away from the jet wash).

Let us know in the comments if you think we got it right and subscribe to @Mapdec for more bike maintenance and workshop tips.
