Unlike our usual turbo training sessions, these are designed and led by local British Cycling coaches Paddy Finn and Iain Childs.
Each 6 week block of 1 hour sessions is designed to build you into a better, more efficient, and stronger cyclist. As such you will need to commit to a 6 week block of training.

How it will work:
After paying your subs here, there is no need to book any more. That place is yours for those 6 weeks. The first week will be an induction, a warm up routine and a cycling fitness test. This test will establish your goals and the resistance you need on the turbo trainers.
The first 2 sessions of the evening will be identical, and suitable for any cyclist looking to improve. The last session of the evening will be more intense and more suited to riders used to turbo training.
I am already a member of the Mapdec studio, can I join these sessions?
Yes. But there needs to be a surcharge of £15 per block to cover the cost of the coaches. Essentially meaning you will pay the same as a non member, but with the advantage of using the studio any other time you like, and reduced workshop rates.
I am a complete turbo training novice, but I can only do the late session, help?
This is fine, we will look after you, and ultimately you always have control. The main difference is that the rest times will be shorter.
What sort of bike do I need?
Like all our sessions a road bike is best. We can fit all axle types, disc brake frames etc. If you have less than 9 cogs on your rear wheel, just let us know before your first visit as we will need to do some extra preparation.
Do I need a Heart Rate Monitor?
No, but it may help you understand all your data better, and use that knowledge back out on the road. If you have one, it needs to be ANT+ enabled. We can sell them for £39.99
Who are the coaches?
Iain Childs is the Chairman of Kendal Cycling club and a British Cycling Level 3 coach. Paddy Finn is a local Triathlete and coach of both cycling and triathlon.
What will happen on the first night?
We will show you how to use the Smart Turbo Trainers (Tacx Neo) and set you up on the computer. We will need to weigh you. We will also be able to send your ride data to Strava and TrainingPeaks. If you want this feature you should know your login details (not Facebook etc)
Is it open to non KCC members?
Yes, we have invited Kendal Tri Club, and KVRC, too.
Does KCC benefit from these sessions?
Kind of... We are processing payment this year as we have better card processing fees and so we lose less cash in the ether. We pay the club coaches directly, who have invested in their qualifications in order to help the club.

At our studio group workouts are personal to your individual fitness. This requires a FTP (Functional Threshold Power) score. To really get the most from the sessions it is important that this score is accurate, so that you can make the biggest gains. (It is not essential to do a test in order to use our studio as we can get you up and running with an estimated score.)

There is a wealth of information about FTP tests online if you would like to learn more, but essentially it describes a power output in Watts that you could theoretically ride in a 1 hour effort. The score gives us a metric we can train to and improve.
We can e-mail you all your ride data, and upload to Strava and TrainingPeaks if you wish. Please remember your log on details, but please do not write them down or give them to us directly.

The new cycling fitness test introduced by the Sufferfest and Apex Coaching.
This test is designed to give a more comprehensive overview of a cyclists strengths and weakness across 4 metrics. (4 Dimensional Power) We are experimenting with this new test for now, and greatly appreciate your efforts and feedback.
FTP - The usual Functional Threshold Power metric that we use to great effect everyday in the studio. Tested over 20mins
NMP - Neuromuscular Power is pure sprinting ability and tested with 2 x 5sec sprint efforts.
AC - Anaerobic Capacity is for short, sharp efforts. and tested on a 1 min max effort.
MAP - Maximal Aerobic Power is sustained power over a few minutes at VO2 max. Tested during a 5 min big effort.

If you are starting to question if you are really putting your energy to best use in your pedaling style, this 1 hour session will start to answer that doubt.
The modern way of pedalling is moving to a faster cadence from sound science, and strong professional results. Cadence is only one element to becoming more efficient, and must be matched with smooth application of force through the pedals.
This course is best done if you are happy with your bike fit, and can already sustain a still upper body when pedaling hard. We will be ironing out the peaks and troughs in your application of force, and work on smoothly adjusting your cadence as we adapt to inclines, and gear shifts.
We focus on maintaining constant velocity at the crank spindle, and engaging the large muscle groups for more of the pedal stroke.
This session is for a maximum of 5 people, and will be reasonably energetic. We will be using our gears and analysing data on screens as we ride.
We don't cover Left/Right balance in this session. This marginal gain is something we offer in private coaching using the Garmin Cycling Dynamics and Vector 2 Pedal system.
